Tumanbay review: Tumanbay could be a historical radio fantasy drama. The plot revolves around political intrigue in the fictional empire’s capital, Tumanbay. The town is threatened by both supernatural forces and political unrest. The world was based on Egypt’s slave dynasty, the Mamluks. Tumanbay’s first ten episodes were the first broadcast on BBC Radio 4 in the United Kingdom between December 2015 and February 2016.

Tumanbay, a ten-part storey about upheaval, revolution, and romance set in a corrupt fictional city, premieres on Radio 4 on Wednesday. Most radio dramas are broadcast over the course of a week or, as in the case of War and Peace last Christmas, in a single day. Tumanbay, which loosely supported the Mamluk sultanate that controlled Egypt, the Levant, and Hejaz until 1517, will ask its audience to return for 10 weeks to discover whether the inhabitants of its fictional city thrive or perish.
