Sirtfood Diet Wiki: The name Sirt comes from the yeast ‘silent mating-like information regulation 2’ gene, which is a gene responsible for cellular regulation of yeast. Sirtuins are a class of proteins with both mono-ADP–ribosyltransferase and deacetylase activity, which includes deacetylase activity.
Originally introduced in 2016, the Sirtfood Diet continues to be a hot topic for supporters to follow a diet rich in ‘sirt foods.’ These special foods function according to the creators of the diet by activating particular proteins called sirtuins in the body.
Sirtuins are thought to protect cells in the body against dying when stressed and are designed to control inflammation, metabolism, and the process of aging. The theory of sirtuins affects the body’s ability to burn fat and to improve metabolism, which leads to a loss of 7 pounds of muscle a week.
However, some scientists suggest that this would possibly not be fat loss alone, but instead will be a result of changes in the skeletal and liver stores of glycogen.
