Patrick Vallance Salary: The British government announced on 8 November that it will be appointed as Chief Scientific Adviser to the Research and Development Director GlaxoSmithKline, Patrick Vallance. Mark Walport will be replaced in April 2018 by Vallance, a clinical pharmacologist who previously headed the medical department on University College London. Walport left the government to head up the new UK Research and Innovation, a powerful funding agency.
Vallance will advise the Prime Minister and his office, which is the government’s highest decision-making body, as a chief scientific advisor. He will also lead the Government Science Office, which promotes the use of science in policing. Both scientists who lead the coronavirus pandemic response earn nearly £400,000.
Professor Chris Whitty, Chief Medical Officer shall be paid between £205,000 and £210,000, and Sir Patrick Vallance, Senior Scientific Adviser, shall pay £185,000. Thirty officers will earn over £150,000 from soon to be dismissed Public Health England. As senior advisor to the Health Department, former Chief Executive Duncan Selbie is still in office for £195,000. Before losing his job, he got a £5,000 pay increase.
