Ohtani salary: Shohei Ohtani is a pitcher and designated hitter for the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim in Major League Baseball (MLB). He previously played for the Nippon Professional Baseball (NPB) Pacific League’s Hokkaido Nippon-Ham Fighters.
The Fighters selected Ohtani first overall in the 2012 draught. From 2013 to 2017, he was a pitcher and outfielder for the Fighters in NPB. At 165 kilometers per hour, Ohtani set the record for the fastest pitch by a Japanese pitcher and in NPB history (102.5 mph).
After the 2017 season, the Fighters released Ohtani, who signed with the Angels. He was named Rookie of the Year in the American League in 2018.
Shohei Ohtani, a two-way player, prevented arbitration by accepting a two-year, 8.5 million dollars contract with Los Angeles Angels, said the team on Monday. The 26-year-old pitcher and hitter will receive 3 million dollars this season and 5.5 million dollars by 2022.
With the Nippon Ham Fighters in Japan in 2017, Ohtani made 270 million yen (approximately 2.6 billion dollars). He was posted by the Fighters to the Angels in the off-season of 2017 at a negotiated rate, as his contract to sign a bonus pool was limited to a small league agreement.
