Nova Peris Daughter Hockey: Nova Peris Kneebone Daughter: Olympic athlete Jessica Peris, the eldest daughter of Olympic legend and Aboriginal hero Nova Peris, has had an eventful upbringing in a difficult environment.

Following the discovery that she had tested positive for a prohibited substance on Tuesday, Ms Peris, 27, was compelled to withdraw from the Commonwealth Games selection trials in her place.

With the help of a lawyer, the sprinter vehemently denied taking any performance-enhancing substances, blaming the results of a urine sample that was “significantly defective.”

The claim, on the other hand, is a crushing blow for Ms Peris, who has worked hard in recent years to move on from a string of personal crises. Her difficult relationships with Roosters fullback Shaun Kenny-Dowall and Darwin rugby union player Jah Coe both ended in court when allegations of domestic violence, destroyed mobile phones, and dirty laundry were publicly aired in front of the judge.

Two years ago, Kenny-Dowall was acquitted of domestic violence allegations when a court determined that Ms Peris was a ‘unreliable’ witness – despite the fact that up to 40,000 filthy text messages had been submitted to a magistrate for consideration.

A number of times, she had set new personal bests in the 100m and 200m, which not only put her in contention for selection to the Commonwealth Games, but also drew the notice of drug-testing authorities.

Peris defeated rising star Riley Day — who won the sprint double at the trials this weekend — at the Glynis Nunn Shield in Queensland earlier this month, clocking 11.41 seconds in the process.

Last month, she competed in the Summer Down Under Series in Canberra, where she came second in both the 100m and 200m. She has not raced since.

My daughter, @jessica peris, ran a solid 200m today, setting a new personal best time of 23.11 seconds (+3.1) – An excellent start to the season, and we are looking forward to the @AthsAust events in the coming weeks.

In December, she ran the 200m in 23.31 seconds, which was good enough to qualify for the Commonwealth Games B-standard.

The Peris revelation comes barely a fortnight after Australian marathoner Cassie Fien agreed to a nine-month penalty for taking the banned chemical Higenamine, which was discovered in her system.

When Fien, 32, was tested for doping outside of competition in April 2017, the results were positive. Fien has previously represented Australia in the World Half Marathon Championships twice.

The return of Peris to the track comes after she went through a difficult period following her ugly breakup with NRL player Shaun Kenny-Dowall. The Australian Women’s Hockey team represented the country in the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta, where Peris became the first Aboriginal Australian to win an Olympic gold medal in the sport.

When she switched sports in 1997, she became a double gold medalist at the 1998 Commonwealth Games in Kuala Lumpur, winning the 200m sprint with a timing of 22.77 seconds and also participating in Australia’s victorious 4 x 100 metres relay team, which won the gold medal. When Peris was a teenager, he was selected Young Australian of the Year.
