Daniel Jones Injury Video: Daniel Jones exited Sunday’s game between the New York Giants and Dallas Cowboys with an injury received in the second quarter. The way he appeared after the play instantly raised concussion worries. The Giants eventually acknowledged their young quarterback had a concussion.
Jones tried to scamper for a score on 3rd-and-goal from the 1-yard line when he suffered a helmet-to-helmet collision from Cowboys linebacker Jabril Cox. Two defenders landed on Jones and stopped him short of the goal line. Jones ultimately stood up on his own, although he seemed quite unstable on his feet.
A wagon instantly came out for Jones because he appeared like he had difficulties walking. He was brought to the locker room and checked for a concussion.
The incident to Jones happened not long after Saquon Barkley departed the game with a nasty-looking ankle injury.
It’s been a crazy first half between the New York Giants and Dallas Cowboys today. But although Giants star running back Saquon Barkley was taken off early with an ankle injury, quarterback Daniel Jones had an equally terrifying moment.
On a goal-line play, Jones executed a fake handoff and attempted to roll out to his left to score a running touchdown. But two Cowboys defenders grabbed him and pounced, falling on top of Jones and pushing him to the ground awkwardly.
Jones needed additional time to get up, and when he did, he wasn’t looking too great. He was obviously unsteady as he stood up and had to be brought to the medical tent.
Reports have subsequently come out that Jones is being tested for a concussion. Based on the power of this strike, it wouldn’t be a complete surprise if he received one.
NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport claims Barkley sustained a low-ankle injury, citing a source. Rapoport adds that the injury will likely knock Barkley out for next week vs the Rams and, while he’ll have further testing done, the Giants RB is best classified as week-to-week. Barkley will attempt to just miss one week, according to Rapoport.
The third-year quarterback was replaced by veteran Mike Glennon, who passed off to Barkley’s replacement Devontae Booker for a one-yard score on the next play.
Jones has completed 5 of 13 throws for 98 yards with nine yards rushing on three tries. Wide receiver Kenny Golladay, who sustained a knee injury in the first half, was also ruled out before halftime after not recording a reception despite three targets.
