Bcps Hack: The Baltimore County Public School (BCPS) system has canceled classes following an apparent attack on the Baltimore County public school. Described by officials as a “networking issue,” the failure affects, among other things, the e-mail and classification systems of schools.
BCPS Staff Chief Mychael Dickerson on Twitter reported the disruption as a result of a ransomware attack. “We have been the victims of a cyber-assault ransomware,” he said. Dickerson can only tweet the messages because the BCPS website is actually down. “The situation is resolved by our team of BCPS technology.”
The loss resulted in closed offices for the day and off-day for students. Dickerson told the Baltimore Sun, “We knew it would not be a fast fix. “We don’t want people to stand and think we’re going to get back up.”
